Toyota Fun Vii rainbow concept pops up on Facebook, has wireless charging

Toyota-fcev-ii-rainbow-628

Toyota recently updated its Facebook cover photo with the odd-looking, rainbow-colored vehicle (is that the right word here?) you see above. It took us a little while to realize that this bright, playful thing is the Fun-Vii concept that was first shown off at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2011. We were so used to seeing the glossy black that this rainbow (and the low-resolution image which made the Fun-Vii logo look more than a little like "FCHV/ii," implying that this was a wildly different update to the FCHV (fuel cell hybrid vehicle) and FCHV-adv models that Toyota has been testing for years. Those vehicles put a hydrogen fuel powertrain into the body of a Highlander SUV. The vehicle pictured above is, shall we say, not a Highlander.

Once we figured out that this was, indeed, the Fun-Vii, it prompted us to go take another look at what is, admittedly, nothing more than a fanciful sketch about what future Toyotas might look like. That's when we realized that, despite Toyota downplaying anything about the Fun-Vii's powertrain in the original press release – the Fun-Vii's focus was the changeable exterior – we discovered that this thing's got wireless charging technology. Turn out, when Toyota dreams in color, it dreams big.

Toyota-rav4
Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported November  2012 sales results of 161,695 units, an increase of 17.2 percent compared to the same period last year on both a daily selling rate (DSR) and a raw volume basis.

The Toyota Division posted November total sales of 138,976 units, an increase of 17.3 percent on a DSR basis from November 2011.

“Replacement of vehicles damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Sandy is partially responsible for strong sales,” said Bill Fay, Toyota Division group vice president and general manager.  “However, pent up demand, record low finance rates and exciting new products are also driving demand.  Approximately 40 percent of the vehicles we sell this year will be all-new or significantly updated models.”

The Lexus Division recorded November sales of 22,719 units, up 16.8 percent over November 2011 on both a daily selling rate (DSR) and a raw volume basis.

“With nine new or redesigned models available for customers, Lexus posted its best November sales in five years,” said Tim Morrison, Lexus Division vice president of sales. “Our momentum is extremely strong, and we will close out 2012 with a December to Remember.”

  Toyota Division
Toyota Division passenger cars recorded combined monthly sales of 76,993 units, up 16.5 percent over November 2011.  Camry and Camry Hybrid led car sales with combined sales of 28,765 units.  Corolla reported its best November ever with sales of 22,616 units, increasing 40.3 percent.  The Prius Family increased 8.5 percent with November sales of 16,505 units.

Toyota Division light trucks recorded November sales of 61,983 units, an increase of 18.3 percent compared to the same month last year.  The Tacoma mid-size pickup truck and RAV4 compact SUV led truck sales with monthly sales of 12,272 and 12,423 units, respectively.  Tundra full-size pickup reported sales of 8,309 units, up 31.6 percent over the previous November.   Highlander, 4Runner and Sienna also all posted double-digit gains over last November.

Scion benefited from the return of younger buyers to the marketplace along with new products, posting November sales of 5,606 units, up 57.8 percent over November 2011. Sales of the recently introduced FR-S remain strong at 1,350 units.

  Lexus Division
Lexus reported passenger car sales of 12,460 units, up 18.2 percent over November 2011.  The ES 350 entry luxury sedan and the first-ever ES Hybrid led Lexus passenger car sales with combined sales of 6,066 units, increasing 28.2 percent year-over-year.  The GS midsize luxury sedan posted sales of 1,826 units, up 786.4 percent

Lexus luxury utility vehicles recorded sales of 10,259 units, up 15 percent over November 2011.  The RX and RX Hybrid luxury utility vehicle led sales with combined November sales of 8,871 units, up 17.0 percent over last year.

  TMS Hybrids
TMS posted November hybrid vehicle sales of 24,682 an increase of 28.7 percent compared to the same period last year.  Toyota Division posted November sales of 20,958 hybrids, while Lexus Division reported sales of 3,724 hybrids for the month.

Toyota Donates $1 Million to Support Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

Toyota
Toyota today announced a $1 million contribution to the American Red Cross and other nonprofit organizations to support relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Sandy in the regions worst-hit by the storm. In addition, Toyota will match employee contributions to the American Red Cross and other non-profits doing relief and recovery work in affected communities.

Commenting on the donation, Shigeki Terashi, president and chief operating officer of Toyota Motor North America, Inc., said, “On behalf of Toyota, we express our sincere condolences to the families affected by Hurricane Sandy. Since we have operations and many dealerships in the affected regions, we felt a special responsibility to lend a hand. In addition to this contribution, many Toyota employees are already involved in volunteer activities to support those in need. We very much appreciate their support.”

Beginning Nov. 1, Toyota Financial Services (TFS) and Lexus Financial Services (LFS) will launch a “Customer Outreach” calling campaign to lease and retail customers who are delinquent, or become delinquent, due to circumstances related to the storm and who reside in the 13 states directly impacted by the hurricane (CT, DC, DE, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VA, VT and WV) and in the District of Columbia. This campaign will determine if these customers may be eligible to take advantage of payment relief options, some of which include:

• extensions and lease deferred payments;
• redirecting billing statements;
• and arranging phone or on-line payments.

Toyota Financial customers with questions about their account should call (800) 874-8822. Lexus Financial customers with questions about their account should call (800) 874-7050. Qualified residents residing in FEMA-designated areas (of the above-mentioned states and the District) needing to purchase a vehicle may also take advantage of a 90 Day Deferred First Payment Program designed to assist customers with their transportation needs as they work through the recovery process. This program is for a limited time and only available through participating Toyota and Lexus dealers and TFS/LFS.

In Consumer Reports' reliability study, Toyota brands earn top spots

Bilde
Toyota’s three brands – Scion, Toyota and Lexus – swept the three top spots in Consumer Reports’ annual reliability survey, which analyzes subscribers’ experiences with 1.2 million new vehicles to predict future reliability.

Ford’s reliability took its biggest hit yet as complaints about its MyFord Touch infotainment system and a new transmission continued to hurt the automaker, causing its ranking to fall to 27th of 28 brands, down from 20th in last year’s study.

Cadillac, at 11th, was judged the most reliable domestic brand, improving from 25th last year.

Asian brands took nine of the top 10 spots. Audi, at No. 8, was the only German automaker to rank in the top 10. This year, Mazda was ranked fourth, followed by Subaru, Honda, Acura, Audi, Infiniti and Kia.

The drop for Ford comes three years after Consumer Reports praised Ford as the only domestic automaker with “world class reliability.” Two years ago the Ford brand also cracked the top 10. Now, only Jaguar is ranked lower.

Despite efforts to improve MyFord Touch, the smartphone-like screen on which drivers can control everything from their phones to temperature settings to entertainment options, continues to confuse some customers, said Jake Fisher, director of testing for the magazine.

Fisher said customers say the touch screens sometimes go blank, or settings disappear and sometimes the system needs to be rebooted. Customers also continue to complain about rough shifting with Ford’s six-speed, dual-clutch Powershift transmission, Fisher said.

“They’ve put out some updates to try to address some of those problems for both the transmissions and the infotainment controls, but it doesn’t seem to be enough,” Fisher said.

Chrysler also had a disappointing showing. The Auburn Hills automaker has devoted tremendous attention to quality in recent launches of new vehicles. Still, three of its four brands ranked near the bottom. Jeep, the automaker’s top-ranked brand, finished 19th, six spots lower than last year.

Inconsistent reliability for Chrysler was caused by problems with optional powertrains and issues with features found on higher priced versions, the magazine said.

Fisher said Chrysler’s problems stem from overhauling so many vehicles so quickly. The Auburn Hills automaker significantly redesigned or upgraded 18 cars and trucks in 18 months after it emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Those changes included new engines and other new technology.

“Chrysler seems to be a victim of its own improvements,” Fisher said. “They have actually improved a lot of their vehicles quite a bit, but when you make so many changes it is hard to maintain your reliability.”

In addition to Cadillac’s much improved showing, Buick, Chevrolet and GMC all climbed several spots.

The Cadillac brand was the first to receive substantial changes and upgrades from GM after it came out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy and has been steadily improving in recent years, Fisher said.

Consumer Reports is often criticized for favoring Asian automakers over domestic automakers because Asian automakers almost always finish near the top and the Detroit Three typically struggle.

“We are basically just taking data that the consumers and subscribers are providing to us,” Fisher said. “We often have people tell us they really love their domestic cars.”

Rutledge Wood to Announce Winner of Toyota Racing Dream Build Challenge at SEMA Show

2012toyotaracingdreamrutledgewood001
Toyota announced today that NASCAR television analyst and Top Gear U.S. edition co-host Rutledge Wood will announce the winner of the Toyota Racing Dream Build Challenge (www.ToyotaRacingDreamBuild.com), a vehicle modification competition pitting four top racing drivers and their dream cars against each other for charity. The awards ceremony will take place at Toyota’s press conference during the 2012 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas on Oct. 30.

"I'm a big car guy and that's why I'm so excited about the Dream Build Challenge,” said Wood. "What's so cool…is that Toyota is taking their drivers, letting them build something crazy, and then they're going to raise money for their charities. I mean that's an amazing thing. It's going to be huge and I'm so glad to be a part of it with all my friends at Toyota."

The Dream Build challengers are NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup contender Clint Bowyer, who is building an ultra-high-tech Prius; NHRA Top Fuel points leader Antron Brown and his drag-race-inspired Sequoia; NASCAR superstar Kyle Busch, who is developing a road-race-style Camry; and NHRA Nitro Funny Car phenom Alexis DeJoria, who is transforming a Tundra into a virtually race-ready desert "pre-runner."

Fans will determine by online voting which of the four modified Toyota vehicles will win the
challenge, which includes a check from Toyota for $50,000 made out to the winning driver’s charity of choice.

In addition to announcing the winning driver and charity, Wood will serve as master of ceremonies for the Toyota SEMA Show press conference, with duties to include introduction of five additional Toyota vehicles built expressly for the SEMA show: three unique versions of the all-new 2013 Avalon; an FJ Cruiser modified by TRD; and the Ultimate Fishing Tundra.

The role of emcee comes naturally to Wood, whose service in that capacity on cable television’s SPEED channel brought him to the attention of BBC Worldwide, who at the time were in the process of seeking co-hosts for the U.S. edition of “Top Gear.” Wood has co-hosted the American edition of the popular program on cable’s History channel since 2010. As a resident “funny man” on SPEED, he can be seen on the talk-variety series “Trackside” and as a roving reporter during NASCAR events.

Wood’s affinity for Toyota products makes him a natural selection for hosting duties at the company’s SEMA Show press conference. Among the vehicles in his personal garage, he says, “My ‘Dad-mobile’ is easily my favorite. It’s a Tundra CrewMax 4×4.” And he counts his 1997 Supra Twin Turbo as one of his dream cars. Wood also participated in the 36th annual Toyota Pro/Celebrity race during the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach last April.

Wood will be featured in an upcoming segment of the online reality series that has been developed around the Toyota Racing Dream Build Challenge. New episodes are uploaded regularly at www.ToyotaRacingDreamBuild.com.

Voting for the challenge will open on Oct. 20 and will continue through Oct. 29. Fans will be able to vote once per day on Facebook where they can also enter to win prizes, including a Toyota Racing Dream Trip.

The final vehicle builds will be unveiled by Wood during Toyota’s press conference at the SEMA show in Las Vegas on Oct. 30 at 11:00 a.m. PDT. Fans will be able to tune in live online via Livestream to watch the entire press conference and see the winner announced in real time.

Teams Hustle to Complete their Builds on Time for the Toyota Racing Dream Build Challenge

2012trdbcalexis008
Customizing a vehicle can often be broken down into a series of tasks that can then be scheduled and executed—at least until the clock runs out. Then all bets are off. And so it goes for the Toyota Racing Dream Build Challenge teams with time to complete their ambitious builds coming to a close in about two weeks, just before voting begins on October 20. And just like a race car, these one-off rides must be ready to go when the green flag drops.

Kyle Busch's "Rowdy Edition" Camry is "getting close." Busch's team at Detroit Speed has extensively reworked the Camry's body with strong fender flares, a NASCAR-style splitter and front and rear belly pans to direct airflow under the car. All of these parts have been custom designed and fabricated by hand—a painstaking and time-consuming process. More recently, the team has been scrambling to finish custom interior touches with completely redone seats and a custom electronic entertainment package.

Getting a complex collection of custom-built electronics to work seamlessly in his "Tekked-Out Prius" seems to be keeping Clint Bowyer's RKM Performance Center team awake into the wee hours. It's loaded with hi-tech gadgets like side-view cameras that replace the mirrors, 45 feet. of fiber optic interior lighting and a 16-speaker stereo with six crossovers and dual amplifiers. Then there's the suspension which has dropped the Prius "lower than a Sprint Cup car." And, there’s certainly no lack of team spirit as their build will sport no less than 364 copies of the Toyota logo.
Alexis DeJoria's Pre-Runner Tundra concept has her Racer Engineering team working on virtually every aspect of the truck. Long-travel suspension (20 inches in the rear), an elaborate custom roll cage wrapped in leather, and a TRD-supercharged engine are all part of her design to make a serious off-road tool. The team is also squeezing in a JBL audio system and a specially-built fuel cell. It’s all more than enough to keep them busy right up to the due date.

Some builds are more ambitious than others, and Antron Brown's “DragQuoia” is a big concept that's challenging its capable builders. The "family dragster" idea means that whatever they do has to leave room for the family to ride safely and comfortably. And they're doing quite a lot. For starters, the Motorsports Technical Center team is lopping more than 2,000 lbs. off the factory curb weight. A TRD blower and nitrous coax the 5.7-liter V8 to pump out more than 650 hp for those "quick" runs to the supermarket. Massive 21.5-inch wide rear tires put the power to the ground, which in turn need big fender mods—inside and out—to keep the hot rubber bits contained in the wheel wells. Fortunately, Junior will have a comfortable perch in the back to view the scenery rushing by, secured with his own five-point racing harness. And between runs, he can watch his favorite DVD on the seat-back media player.

Every one of the Dream Build vehicle teams has the chops and experience to deliver for their driver. The simple question on delivery day may come down to this: Which team will be the least sleep deprived.

Scion’s ‘What Moves You’ Campaign Highlights Unique ‘Scion Story’ in New Chapter of Brand’s Evolution

Scioncampaignwhatmovesyou
Scion today announced the launch of its brand campaign “What Moves You” featuring its own unique “Scion Story.” The campaign launches today at www.scion.com and continues with targeted high-profile broadcast, print, online and out-of-home placements next week.

“The recent introductions of the FR-S sports car and the premium micro-subcompact iQ have expanded Scion’s target audience. While these new products have successfully increased awareness of the lineup, many people have only a vague understanding of Scion’s uncommon brand attributes,” said Doug Murtha, Scion vice president. “With this in mind, the ‘What Moves You’ campaign is the first of several important initiatives designed to better familiarize consumers with the brand.

“People know that Scion makes iconic vehicles that are built with the highest level of quality, but they might not know what Scion stands for and what makes it unique. We’re truly proud to showcase the brand’s story in the new campaign, to clearly tell people who we are, what we support and more importantly, what moves us.”

Appearing prominently on the brand’s website, The Scion Story describes the colorful automotive brand’s history and plainly spells out its core beliefs. For example, it states, “We know that we are not the biggest car brand and we don’t want to be. What we do want is to provide a unique and better alternative that is right for today’s new car buyers.” This story describes Scion’s goal of offering quality cars that owners will want to personalize, with a simple purchase process that is enjoyable, and details the brand’s support of emerging talent in the art, music, design and automotive enthusiast realms.

“Since the brand launched nearly 10 years ago, Scion has had an affinity for the creative arts that has resulted in helping more than 1,700 artists follow their passions,” added Owen Peacock, Scion national marketing and communications manager. “Our support of emerging artists is and always has been a cornerstone of the brand, and we bring that to light by featuring them and their personal stories as key parts of the campaign.”

Specifically, the “What Moves You” campaign incorporates Scion creative partners, their stories of what moves them and how Scion has supported them to achieve their goals. The broadcast spot features Scion collaborators like artist Neil Krug, automotive designer Troy Sumitomo, professional racing driver Michele Abbate, and musician Prince Terrence and his band Hussle Club.

Toyota's Ultimate Fishing Tundra Build Underway for SEMA

Toyota
Bassmaster Elite Series pro angler Britt Myers knows a thing or two about bass fishing.  And as a well-known builder of custom Toyota Tundras for his fellow anglers, he had an idea or two for a singular Tundra with everything an Elite Series pro could imagine—plus a little more. The result is the "Ultimate Fishing Tundra," which makes its public debut at Toyota's display booth at the 2012 SEMA Show in Las Vegas on October 30.

Knowing that two heads, or in this case five, are usually better than one, Myers also solicited ideas from the Toyota Tundra Pro Angler team of Kevin VanDam, Terry "Big Show" Scroggins, Mike Iaconelli and Gerald "G-Man" Swindle, an accomplished group of anglers who also know a thing or two about fishing rigs.

Myers, who owns North Carolina-based CS Motorsports, then turned his team loose on a 2012 Tundra CrewMax. Toyota's brawniest full-size pickup has towing and payload capacities that make short work of hauling a pro bass fishing boat and gear, so Myers turned the lion's share of his attention on enhancing the bass fisherman's life.

Says Myers, "it will have a bed-area tackle storage system that looks like a Bass Pro Shop aisle. It'll have tackle, reels, rods and even a refrigerator."  For an extra-handy touch, Myers and his team are making all the gear in the bed easily accessible by utilizing an automatic, motorized delivery system.

Looking to enhance comfort and entertainment, the CS Motorsports crew replaced the rear bench with bucket seats and custom-built a fiberglass console that stretches from the dash to the rear cab wall and includes built-in video monitors and subwoofers.  Both front doors receive custom panels that will house extra speakers and video monitors to play fishing videos and display Navionics lake-mapping options.

Outside, the beefy Tundra gets a TRD Big Brake Kit and a 12-inch suspension lift—a little extra insurance against muddy bogs and steep lakeshore boat launches.  A custom roof rack with special LED lighting and fishing rod storage will also be installed, along with a specially-designed grille to set off the styling of this unique rig.

Leaving no lake un-fished, Myers' team couldn't resist adding a TRD supercharger and exhaust system.  The extra power and torque will be appreciated for the likely extra load from a successful day of fishing.

This unique Tundra will be on display at the 2012 SEMA Show alongside several other custom Toyota vehicles, including those from the Toyota Racing Dream Build Challenge (www.ToyotaRacingDreamBuild.com).  The four Dream Build cars and trucks are being individually created by four of Toyota's top racing drivers:  Kyle Busch and Clint Bowyer from NASCAR, plus Antron Brown and Alexis DeJoria from NHRA.

Voting for the winner of the Toyota Racing Dream Build Challenge will open on Oct. 20 and will continue through Oct. 29.  The final vehicle builds will be unveiled—and the winning driver and charity announced—during Toyota’s press conference at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas on Oct. 30.

2013 Toyota Sequoia Offers Industry-First Blu-Ray Rear Seat Entertainment System

Copy_of_toyota_sequoia_2010_5
The Toyota Sequoia, which offers seating for up to eight in a full-size, full-capability sport-utility vehicle (SUV), gains new family friendly entertainment features for 2013. The Sequoia debuts a Toyota-first Blu-Ray rear seat entertainment system, and 2013 also marks the first full year of Toyota Entune™ availability.

Built on an exclusive platform that uses body-on-frame construction, the Toyota Sequoia features four-wheel independent suspension to help provide exemplary ride quality, handling and straight-line control. The 2013 Sequoia is available in SR5, Limited and Platinum grades, and all models for 2013 now make the 381-hp 5.7-liter V8 standard; the 310-hp 4.6-liter V8 has been discontinued. The Sequoia model line offers the choice of 2WD and 4WD. In select areas, Sequoia 4x4 models feature E85 Flex Fuel capability.

Performance
The standard engine for all 2013 Sequoia models is now the iForce DOHC 5.7-liter V8, teamed to a six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. The 5.7-liter engine produces 381 hp at 5,600 RPM and 401 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,600 RPM. The engine is equipped with dual independent Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i). An Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS) switches the intake tract length in two stages, based on engine RPM and throttle angle, to optimize torque across the engine speed range. Toyota specifies regular-grade fuel for the Sequoia.

The 5.7-liter V8 enables the Sequoia to tow up to 7,400 lbs., depending on model grade and equipment. Crucial for customers who tow, the 5.7-liter V8 produces 90 percent of its peak torque at just 2,200 rpm. A Tow/Haul mode modifies transmission shift points for optimal performance.

The standard Trailer Sway Control system uses the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) to help counteract handling forces acting on the SUV in an effort to minimize the impact of trailer sway. The Sequoia's towing hitch is integrated into the frame as a single unit.

Toyota's flexible torque converter lock-up control enhances efficiency in the six-speed automatic transmission, with lock-up occurring in fourth, fifth and sixth gears. The available Multi-Mode four-wheel-drive system uses a two-speed transfer case with a lockable TORSEN® limited-slip center differential to power the front and rear wheels. The transfer case is shifted electronically via a rotary knob, and it locks with the push of a button.

Handling and Ride

The four-wheel independent suspension uses upper and lower A-arms and coil springs at each wheel. The 38-foot turning circle is one of the tightest in Sequoia's class.

The Sequoia Platinum model is equipped with Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), which adjusts damper response with settings for Comfort, Normal and Sport. The Platinum grade’s Electronically Modulated Air Suspension also augments the Sequoia's ability to tow and haul heavy loads while maintaining an appropriate ride height and chassis attitude. The SR5’s standard 18-inch aluminum wheels have 275/65 R18 tires; 20-inch aluminum wheels with 275/55 R20 tires are standard for the Limited and Platinum grades, with the wheels on the Platinum featuring a diamond-cut finish.

Sequoia uses 13.9-inch ventilated front disc brakes and 13.6-inch ventilated rear disc brakes. Four opposed pistons – two per side – ensure optimal braking performance and fade resistance.

Safety
Like all Toyota models, the 2013 Sequoia is equipped with Toyota's STAR Safety System™, which includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control (TRAC) and Smart Stop Technology (SST). On 4WD models, TRAC is replaced by A-TRAC (Active-Traction Control).

The 2013 Sequoia is equipped with a dual stage advanced front air bag system, seat-mounted side airbags for the driver and front passenger, roll-sensing side curtain airbags for all three seating rows, plus driver and front passenger knee airbags.

Comfort and Convenience
The Sequoia SR5 is one of the best-equipped vehicles in its class, featuring standard eight-passenger seating; tilt/telescoping steering wheel; engine immobilizer with alarm; direct tire pressure monitoring system; automatic tri-zone air conditioning; illuminated entry system; power windows, locks and sliding back window; keyless entry; rear wiper and defogger; cruise control, and mud guards. Standard audio on the SR5 includes AM/FM CD player with MP3/WMA playback capability, eight speakers, SiriusXM Satellite Radio (includes three-month trial subscription to XM Select Package), auxiliary audio jack, USB port with iPod® connectivity, hands-free phone capability and music streaming via Bluetooth® wireless technology.

The SR5 grade comes ready to work and play with a standard towing package, an eight-way power driver’s seat, fog lamps, running boards, power tilt/slide moonroof, a roof rack and rear spoiler, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel with audio and climate controls.

The Sequoia Limited adds functionality with front and rear parking sonar; power rear liftgate with a sliding window; power folding and reclining 60:40 split third-row seat, and 20-inch alloy wheels. Luxury takes a big step up with a standard power tilt/slide moonroof; heated front leather-trimmed seats, second- and third-row retractable sunshades and a steering wheel that integrates controls for the air conditioning system, Bluetooth®-capable phones and other functions.

The Limited grade also features standard 10-way adjustable power driver’s seat; a leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear shift knob; Optitron gauges; and a multi-information display. A standard-equipped auto-dimming electrochromic rear-view mirror integrates a compass and a map lamp, plus a 3.3-inch monitor in the rear-view mirror for the backup camera (when not equipped with a navigation system).

The Sequoia Limited is equipped with JBL Synthesis® AM/FM 6-disc CD changer with MP3/WMA playback capability, 14 speakers including subwoofer, SiriusXM Satellite Radio (includes three-month trial subscription to XM Select Package), auxiliary audio jack, USB port with iPod® connectivity, hands-free phone capability and music streaming via Bluetooth® wireless technology.

At the top of the Sequoia line, the Platinum grade comes with standard Dynamic Laser Cruise Control, which can help maintain a set distance from vehicles ahead. A new standard rear seat Blue-Ray entertainment system combines a nine-inch LCD screen with a separate rear seat audio system, including dual wireless headphones.

Additional standard features exclusive to the Sequoia Platinum grade include a 12-way adjustable power driver’s seat and simulated wood-trim; 20-inch diamond cut-finish alloy wheels; rear load-leveling air suspension; power seat memory package; second-row heated seats, and steering wheel with simulated wood trim.

The Platinum grade also features Voice-activated touch-screen DVD navigation system with integrated backup camera display, JBL Synthesis® AM/FM 4-disc CD changer with MP3/WMA playback capability, 14 speakers including subwoofer, SiriusXM Satellite Radio with NavTraffic™ (includes three-month trial subscription to XM Select Package and NavTraffic™), auxiliary audio jack, USB [2] port with iPod® connectivity, hands-free phone capability and music streaming via Bluetooth® wireless technology.

Options
With its long list of standard features, the 2013 Sequoia offers just a small menu of factory options. The SR5 grade offers a Sport Appearance Package that includes seven-passenger seating, 20-inch super chrome alloy wheels, color-keyed grille, and black seat fabric. Exterior colors for the Sport Appearance Package are limited to black, white and silver.

Also available on SR5 models is a Premium Package that includes a leather-trimmed and heated 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat; four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat; a leather-trimmed 40/20/40 split sliding, reclining, fold-flat second-row seat with one-touch access to the third-row seat; a leather-trimmed 60/40 split, power reclining, fold-flat third-row seat; and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with an integrated backup camera monitor, compass, map lights and HomeLink® universal transceiver.

The available Entune multimedia system (optional on SR5 and Limited grades and standard on Platinum grade) leverages the mobile smartphone to provide a richer in-vehicle experience with fully integrated access to navigation, entertainment and information services.

Toyota Entune debuted engaging mobile apps, such includes Bing™, iHeartRadio, MovieTickets.com, OpenTable® and Pandora®, real-time info including traffic, weather, fuel prices, sports and stocks.

The Limited grade offers three options: a Rear Seat Entertainment System that includes a Blu-Ray® player with rear audio controls and 115V outlet; a DVD navigation system with Entune and a backup camera, JBL® Synthesis AM/FM four-disc CD changer audio system with a 90-day trial subscription to SiriusXM Satellite Radio and NavTraffic. Optional captain chairs can replace the standard second row bench seat.

Exterior Design

The Sequoia’s 0.36 drag coefficient (Cd) is comparable to smaller crossover-type vehicles. The vehicle's mirrors, wipers, A-pillars and roof header are shaped to help maximize aerodynamic efficiency and minimize wind noise. Vehicle underside airflow is optimized to reduce drag and wind noise and to help improve directional control.

Headlamp washers are standard on all grades for improved visibility. On the Limited grade, the large side-view mirrors feature power retraction, automatic glare-resistance, and turn-signal lamps. In addition to these features, the Platinum grade mirrors also include puddle lamps, position memory and reverse-linked tilt functions.

The wide rear door-opening angle provides easy passenger ingress/egress and child seat installation. Standard on the Limited and Platinum models are front and rear parking sonar sensors that emit an audible warning to alert the driver of the position of solid objects and their distance from the vehicle.

Interior Design

The Sequoia dash features a finish similar to that in fine luxury cars. Each of Sequoia's eight seating positions provides space sufficient to comfortably accommodate people well above normal height. The same efficient packaging that allows exceptional interior comfort also allows carrying items up to 11 feet long. Folding the second- and third-row seats flat opens the cargo area to 120.1 cubic feet of carrying capacity.

The second-row bench-type seat is split 40:20:40 and is equipped with a seat-slide mechanism that offers an adjustment range of 5.9 inches. This seat can also be folded flat and uses a one-touch easy-slide action to allow passenger access to the third-row seat. Second-row captain seats are available for a seven-seat cabin.

The third-row seat is split 60:40, has a seatback reclining mechanism and can be easily folded flat. A power tilting and folding mechanism is available. The rear liftgate sliding glass can be opened and closed for easy loading with the turn of a key. The cargo area is equipped with handy hooks for grocery bags. Sequoia provides 16 extra-large cup/bottle holders (18 on the Platinum grade), as well as convenient storage spaces.

All three grades offer two interior color choices of Graphite and Sand Beige. A Red Rock interior is also available on the Platinum grade, and the SR5 Sport Appearance Package uses an exclusive black interior.
